Four of a series of eight ads for First National Bank of Vicksburg
featuring historical Vicksburg landmarks. Notable, I believe, for
the copy. It’s some of my best. The campaign won several Addies.
Cedar Grove
John Klein came to Vicksburg from Virginia--a pioneer seeking new frontiers.
He stood on the bluff and saw steamboats laden with treasure, chugging up and down the
river. He saw a bustling river town barely twelve years old. New homes and new businesses
sprouted at its edges. A vast carpet of virgin forest spread to the horizon and beyond.
So...he bought a sawmill and started to build.
Today, two monuments stand in lasting testimony to John Klein’s vision: Vicksburg herself.
And Cedar Grove, his home.
John Klein planted roots in Vicksburg soil and committed a lifetime to it. So did First National
Bank. And we’ve kept that commitment since 1884

Christ Church
They were a church without a chapel. A congregation without a sanctuary. Yet their faith was
sturdy, their commitment complete.
They came together in a fledgling river town on the edge of civilization. It was a hard life. But
they stayed...for they had a church to build.
Today, a gothic spire rises from a city of concrete and steel. The commitment of those early
settlers survives. Christ Church is their witness.
First National Bank was established with a commitment too: to provide professional banking
in a personal way to the people of Vicksburg and Warren County. We’ve been doing just that
since 1884. Our witness is you.FIRST NATIONAL BANK of Vicksburg

Planters Hall
The walls of Planters Hall are strong.
Strong enough to withstand Federal cannonballs shot from gunboats in the river.
Strong enough to hold up under a Union General's drunken vandalism.
Strong enough to survive the devastating tornado of 1953.
Planters Hall--originally Planters Bank in 1836--was built to last.
So, too, was First National Bank. We were established for one purpose--to serve the
financial needs of Vicksburg and Warren County. We've done that since 1884. And we're
still going strong.FIRST NATIONAL BANK of Vicksburg

Biedenharn Candy Company
It was a simple idea. The kind that makes you groan, “Why didn't I think of that?"
But it shaped the habits of a nation.
Joseph Biedenharn didn't invent Coca-Cola. His wasn't even the first soda fountain to offer it.
All he did was listen to his customers. "Sure wish we could get this stuff out on the farm,"
they said.
So he did what any smart businessman would do. He took Coca-Cola to the farm...in bottles.
Finding a need and filling it. That's what business is all about. First National Bank has been
filling the financial needs of Vicksburg and Warren County since 1884. When new needs arise
we find ways to fill them. That's what we are all about.FIRST NATIONAL BANK of Vicksburg
