Steve Acker has been making funky music and memorable
advertising for 37 years. Born in Warren, Ohio, he came up through the
ranks of top local musicians and songwriters like Joe Walsh, Phil
Keaggy, Eric Carmen, Bob DiPiero (writer of countless country hits),
and many others.
Northeast
Ohio was a musical hotbed in the 60s and 70s, and Steve was right
there in the thick of it. After being discovered by Roger Daltrey
of the Who, his band LAW signed with MCA Records in New York and recorded
three critically acclaimed albums. During this time LAW performed
across the country with virtually every major act of the era, including
Bob Segar, Boston, Jethro Tull, the Who, Genesis, REO, Alice Cooper,
and on and on.
Unfortunately,
the hits didnt follow. After disappointing sales of the third
album, Steve left the band in 1978 and moved to Mississippi, where
his family was then living. Soon, he was producing custom records for
local and regional acts and recording his own regional hits, including
Bulldog Blitz for Mississippi State University.
On
the strength of his recordings and his column for The Capitol
Reporter newspaper, Steve secured a position with Mississippis
largest ad agency, the GodwinGroup. With Godwin he created numerous
jingles and ad campaigns for clients like Piccadilly Restaurants, Mr.
Transmission, and Lamar Life Insurance.
After
graduating from Mississippi College in 1985, Steve moved to Nashville,
where he expanded his advertising efforts to include national clients
like Sara Lee Foods and Johnston & Murphy Shoes.
In
August 1999, Steve returned to Jackson. He promptly garnered
attention with his CDs for Mississippi State University (The Dawgpound Rock”) and Ole Miss (“The Rebels are Rolling”). Today, he is
still working as an Internet advertising & marketing consultant and
he's still writing songs and jingles.
